Mr. Robert D. "Bob" LeSaffre, a longtime Wakefield resident and former co-owner of Daniels LeSaffre Motors, Inc. in Melrose, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington on Friday evening January 13, 2012. Bob was 79 years old.

Born on May 17, 1932 in Methuen, Bob was one of six children of the late Robert C. LeSaffre and Anna M. (Carothers) LeSaffre.

Bob was raised and educated in Melrose and graduated from Boston College class of 1954. Bob was fortunate to work alongside his father, Robert C. LeSaffre, founder of Daniels LeSaffre Motors, Inc. Bob operated the Chrysler dealership for 55 years working with his three brothers and his children. Bob was a member and past president of the New England Chrysler-Plymouth Dealer Advertising Association, he was a member of the board of directors at the Melrose Cooperative Bank, and a member and past president of Melrose Rotary where he served as secretary of the Club for many years. Bob received a Paul Harris award from the Melrose Rotary Club. He was a CCD teacher, parishioner and served on the Parish council at Most Blessed Sacrament Church where he was an usher at the 7:30 am mass for many years.

Bob was the beloved husband of Patricia (Laetsch) LeSaffre with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Devoted father of Stephen LeSaffre and his wife Janet of Wakefield, Peter LeSaffre and his wife Rebecca of Melrose, Suzanne L. Swain and her husband Bob of Wakefield, and the late Betsey Palantoni and her husband Frank Palantoni of San Francisco, CA. Dear brother of Dolores Driscoll and her husband John S. of Danvers, Donald W. LeSaffre of Wakefield and his late wife Marilyn LeSaffre, Ann Bruhmuller and her husband Jim of Barnstead, NH, Daniels G. LeSaffre and his wife Ruth of Stoneham and John D. LeSaffre and his wife Nancy of Melrose. Cherished papa of Carolyn N., Stephanie M., Andrea M., Kevin C. Swain, Matthew P., Olivia M., Michael A. Palantoni, Alex R. Palantoni and Mark C. Palantoni. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday at 9:00 AM before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
