Mr. John C. Batten, Sr. of Melrose, passed away at home on Tuesday morning, January 3, 2012, at the age of 74.

Mr. Batten was born on March 8, 1937 in Boston, one of two children of the late John Batten and Hazel (Martin) Batten.

John was raised and educated in Cambridge. He was an electrician for many years and a longtime member of Local 103 IBEW. John was a private person whose interests included playing golf in Winchester, and sports. He was a sports enthusiast who loved watching the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots and enjoyed listening to talk radio especially WEEI. He was a member of Pequosette Lodge AF&AM of Watertown and Trinity Church in Melrose.

He was the beloved husband of Katie (O'Toole) Batten with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Devoted father of John C. Batten, Jr. and his wife Terri of Dracut, Phillip M. Batten and his wife Carol of Nashua, NH, and Eileen C. Willett and her husband Sean of Wilmington. Dear brother of Barbara Joan Batten of Stoneham. Cherished grandfather of Lauren M. Batten of Colorado, Erin N. Batten of Worcester, Karen C. Batten of Lowell, Michael Batten of Nashua, NH, Daniel Batten of Nashua, NH, and Bryan Willett of Wilmington. Dear brother-in-law of Lawrence V. O'Toole of San Diego, CA and Mary C. Dionne of Salem. Also survived by many aunts, nieces and nephews.
